There are many wild monkeys on Mt. Takasaki in Oita City. Feeding wild monkeys.
In 1952, the mayor of Ueda Oita began feeding from pocket money to prevent damage to monkeys that were causing damage to rural areas and to make it a tourism resource. Started as Takasakiyama Nature Zoo in 1953. Initially, one group with 220 heads. The number gradually increased, and now there are 1,173 in 2 groups.
The flock comes down to the gathering place in turn. They come through their legs, stare at adorable baby monkeys, and come close enough not to think of them as wild.
